In Memoriam
Once again that fateful day
is remembered by some,
while many are forgetting,
as people always do,
the shock and urgency
of horrified reaction.
And as the buildings fell,
workers leaping from windows
rather than burning to death,
rescuers rushing in
giving their lives for others.
A dust cloud rose
obscuring the collapse
of long term security,
men and women running
as fast as they could
to escape mass destruction
visiting our shores
for the first time
in the financial district,
the bloodstream of our land
to our many enemies
eager to subtract us
from ownership
of a piece of America.
