The Phrase
Phrase: Toe the line Meaning: To behave as you are bidden, expected (even if you disagree).
Examples:
If you do not toe the line, you will be expelled. (=If you do not obey, ...)
When there is no competition, everybody has to toe the line, or else they will have to face the consequences.
I do not like politicians without personality, that is, those that always toe the party line, no matter what happens.
Those that do not toe the line are at a disadvantage. It is easier to toe the line. Sheep toe the line.
They were fined 500 euros for not toeing the line.
