The Phrase
Phrase: Bang (or beat) the drum for somebody or something Meaning: To speak in favour of someone or something in order to convince as many people as possible, that is, to give him/her/it as much publicity as possible.
Examples:
They are beating the drum for the construction of a new road in the area, but environmentalists are opposed to it.
Oppressed peoples should bang the drum for learning Esperanto as a second language.
We will have to stop beating the drum for him. We are fighting a losing battle. He will never win. Subject: Help
