Phrase: Take French leave Meaning: If someone takes French leave, he or she leaves his or her duty without saying anything.
Example:
Tom has not come to work today. I think he has taken French leave. I saw him in a pub late at night.
Mary is not at school today. She may be ill or have taken French leave.
