Phrase: Get the chop / Give someone or something the chop Meaning: To be dismissed from your job; to stop an undertaking to reduce expenses.
Examples:
Mary got the chop, and had to go abroad because she did not find any work here.
We will have to give this enterprise the chop because it is no longer profitable.
